INSULATION FOR WINTER

For this Blog we are looking at roofspace insulation and the benefits as well as the negatives. As we know the benefits of ceiling space insulation are for a cooler home in summer and for a warmer home in the winter. However insulation can only contain so much heat in the home in winter before it permeates from the home to the roofspace or ceiling space if you prefer.

Furthermore you may have sarking or blanket insulation under the roof covering, just imagine what will be happening with all this moist heat trapped between the ceiling insulation and the insulation at roof level, it could be raining in your roof. See Blog on this site “Warning! Read Before You Design Your Next Housing Project”.

Whether you have insulation at roof level or have no sarking at all heat lost from the home is just that – lost heat – absolutely of no value to the occupants or the home at all, quite the contrary. This lost heated air when it rises to the underside of the roof covering is carrying water vapour which at this point condenses into liquid, water will leave the air – this phenomenon is commonly known as the “dew point” the creation of condensation, it could be raining in your roof.

So what are you to do? You need to have an effective roof ventilation system to move the ambient temperature throughout the roofspace, this will remove all the heated moist air from the roofspace. You will need a series of inlets and outlets to achieve the best results for the condensation problems of winter, a system for roof ventilation to achieve the most effective results for all seasons.

Universal Tile Ventilators have the best system for the effective ventilation of roof spaces – the Universal Tile Ventilator System for tiled roofs and the Smoothline Ventilation System for corrugated colorbond roofs.
